American Business Women’s Association starts new Express Network® in Southern Brazoria County

LAKE JACKSON - On January 10th more than 50 women from across southern Brazoria County gathered for the Kick-Off meeting of the new Express Network of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). The keynote speaker was prominent Houston entrepreneur and philanthropist Cheryl Thompson-Draper.
ABWA is a prestigious organization made up of professional women across the nation. A majority of members belong to local chapters and Express Networks®. Nearly 1,000 chapters and networks throughout the U.S. offer networking and professional development programs via monthly meetings.
In the 1940s as working women were making new inroads to the business world Hilary A. Bufton, Jr., a Kansas City businessman, saw the need for an organization to support and empower women to reach their educational and career goals. As a result, the national organization was founded in 1949. Today, CEO Carolyn Bufton Elman carries on the work of her father. ABWA’s mission is to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition.

The local Express Network meets on the second Wednesday of each month. February’s meeting will be on February 14 from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Lake Jackson Civic Center. The guest speaker will be Pamela C. Grant. Ms. Grant, MSOE is an author, speaker, internationally recognized coach and management consultant, as well as a Licensed Career Counselor. She has more than 22 years of experience in corporate management working with Fortune 500 companies. smaller companies and individuals in virtually every field. Pamela is the founder and President of Life Callings™. She conducts a variety of workshops including her famous “Career Callings” and “Career Callings for Students”.
